It’s been way too long since my last post. I knew that March 15 was approaching, and chose to look the other way. It’s been 10 years since I found out about the Cavernous Angiomas in my brain. I wish they had not found more, because then I could say I’ve been cured. But the truth is no one knows for sure if the others (5-8) will grow and cause problems.
I have been trying to work and walk and drive and… Basically I just don’t want to focus every day on what I can’t do. Instead I want to do as much as I CAN do. One of the things that I can do, is to help build awareness of disability. I guess I figure I am just like everyone else. Sure I’ve had some issues, but who hasn’t?!
Last week I gave a talk entitled “Don’t Judge A Book: Uncovering Unconscious Bias Towards People with Disabilities In The Workplace”. I had to have the longest title! It went very well. I asked Jan Bailey, and Ed Becher, to be on my panel. They were both extraordinarily informative, real, and amazing. Here are some pictures from the event:
I have been asked by several people if I would come and give similar talks in the future. I have 1 booked, I will be at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch for the National Wheelchair Sports Camp and the Chamber Of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony on June 3, 2016. I have asked Ed Becher and Carissa Bennet to join me. They are also both in wheel chairs. I am so honored. Bob Bardwell is the director at Ironwood. He came and talked at our church after I called him and asked him to. He came last week to our talk after meeting Guy Finne, the director of our group. It’s a small, small world.
I will be focusing on ‘my stuff’ as the job has not developed yet. I thought if I worked hard enough that I would be able to say I’m fully employed by now. Unfortunately there are just too many obstacles for the moment. If you look on the consultant page, I have posted some of the other work I’ve been doing. I haven’t put all of my eggs in one basket! But close… Time to get back out there!
